Rectangle Rug (end to end)
Fabric selected should be high quality, even weave 100% cotton or cotton blend, such as those sold for piecing quilts. Yardages given are based on fabrics 45” wide.
-
If the fabric is not pre-shrunk, it should be gently machine washed and dried before cutting. Straighten your fabric by pulling it across the bias. It may be necessary to lightly press the fabric.
-
Fold the fabric in half, short end to short end, as many times as possible. while still being able to cut through all thicknesses. Strips should be at least 2 yards long, in order to avoid too many ends.
-
Cut fabric into 3” wide strips. For quick results, a rotary cutter and mat may be used to cut several layers of fabric at one time.
Gauge is not important; your rug can be a little larger or smaller without changing the overall effect.
A sewing needle and thread is also required.
