Rebel
The Rebel hat is all about rebelling against the grain of what a “hat” should be. It’s knit flat and starts off with a classic garter tab start and through the magic of short rows and a little mitered wizardry it becomes a hat! The Rebel hat is a fun, quick knit with the ability to use scraps and even some yarns held together!
Feel free to use fingering weight held doubled, DK, or even Worsted for the hat! Need to size up or down? Drop to a 6/4.0mm for a smaller, snugger fit or grab a 7/4.5mm for a larger, slouchy-er hat!
Rebel against boring hats and add some POP and that classic graphic PUNCH against the bore of winter! Join the Rebellion and Knit a hat or three or five!
Size: One Size. Hat stretches quite a bit and will fit most human heads! The Samples are shown on a 22 inch (57 cm) head.
Recommended yarn: Two colors of Fingering weight held doubled/DK/Worsted in solids/semi-solids/tonal/speckled/variegated colors. Samples used madelinetosh DK in the colorways Thunderstorm (MC in A and CC in B) and Maple Leaf (CC in A and MC in B). The scrappy version used random scraps from multiple dyers.
Yardage: MC: 140 yd / 128 m; CC: 60 yd / 55 m
Needles: One set of US size 7 / 4.5 mm or size 6 / 4.0mm circular needles. Sample A was knit with a US size 7/4.5m and Sample B was knit with a 6/4.0. The difference is how snug and tight you want your stitches. I personally LOVE the 6, but the 7 is a bit slouchy-er and super comfy too! So just grab one or the other and BAM! Hat done!
Gauge: 4.5-5 sts to the inch in Garter Stitch
Notions: Stitch markers, scissors, tapestry need
