Rainey Headband
Rainey has raindrop pattern and carries “rain” in its name. Rainey as an old English name also means “queen” and you get to wear your headband as a crown. It is a tribute to the local Dutch yarn made from sheep bred on the Texel island and naturally dyed here in The Netherlands.
Construction: the headband is worked in a round on double pointed needles (DNPs) from the middle of the back in both directions and sewn in the middle of the twist in front.
Stitches and techniques: knit (k), purl (p), provisional cast on with a crochet chain, yarn over (yo), grafting on garter stitch.
Yarn: ca. 35 g or 1 skein (170 m in 50 g) of Texelaar DK from Atelier Sarah Jane or any similar DK/worsted weight yarn to match the gauge.
Needles & notions: a set of 4.5 mm (7 US) 20 cm/ 8 in long DPNs, 5 stitch markers, scrap yarn for provisional cast on, 2.5 mm (B or C US size) crochet hook and/or a tapestry needle to make seams.
Gauge: 22 sts and 24 rows in 10 cm/4 in with 4.5 mm (7 US) needles in garter stitch. Please, make a swatch to estimate the gauge correctly (you can unravel the swatch later and use the yarn in your project, so that nothing goes to waste).
Sizing: the headband is designed in one size to fit an adult of 54-58 cm /21-23 in head circumference, but can be easily adjusted to fit any bigger or smaller size. Recommendations are provided.
Final measurements of the blocked headband: 11.5 cm/4.5 in wide and 53 cm/20.8 in in circumference unstretched.
