Thank you for choosing Glove Genie’s Rainbow Glove for your project! These gloves and mittens are super fun to knit, featuring a rainbow motif that wraps around the hand. The mitten version works particularly well for smaller hands. Hold hands together to make a double rainbow!

You can see the design inspiration video to see the gloves!

Sizes
To fit palm width: 6.5 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 10) cm
Size guide:
Child 3-5 years (Child 6-8years, Youth/Women’s XS, Women’s S, Women’s M, Women’s L/Men’s S)
Measure your actual palm width at the widest point without adding ease. The pattern includes approx. 1.5cm-2cm ease.

Construction

  • The gloves are worked in the round from the bottom up.
  • After the cuff increases, the rainbow motif is worked back and forth in flat garter knitting.
  • As the rainbow grows, stitches from the cuff are gradually consumed so that the base of the rainbow remains evenly aligned along the top of the cuff.
  • The thumb gusset is then shaped while simultaneously working the main part of the glove around the rainbow.
  • The upper section of the rainbow is incorporated into the glove.
  • The remainder of the glove or mitten is worked in the standard way.
  • Once all fingers are completed, both sides of the rainbow are grafted: the rainbow stitches are joined using the Kitchener stitch, and the main part of the glove is joined using the ladder stitch.

For Cuff & Rainbow: 2.5mm 80cm circular needles to work with Magic Loop method or size needed to obtain tension.
For Main Part: 2.75mm 80cm circular needles to work with Magic Loop method or size needed to obtain tension.

Note: You can use DPNs, but circular needles make the process easier, especially when redistributing stitches or shifting the beginning of the round. An 80 cm circular needle is ideal for glove projects.
