About Pattern
This shawl was named after Mudpunch’s gorgeous “Rain Showers” colourway, and because pretty speckles just call out for brioche. Pattern comes with two options: with or without a contrast beaded picot border. For extra pizzazz, add tassels!

Sizing / Finished Measurements
The pattern is written for one size. Final measurements after blocking: wingspan (54” / 137 cm), depth at centre (25” / 64 cm).

Yarn / Yardage
Approximately 400 yds / 366 m each of fingering weight yarn for colour A (“Rain Showers”) and colour B (“Pressure Zone”). If working the optional picot bind-off, you will need approx. 120 yards / 108 m of colour A, or a contrasting coloured fingering weight yarn (Malabrigo Sock Yarn in “Ivy”). The blue and white version without the contrast border is shown in MudPunch’s Vibrant Fingering in “Feather Run” (A) and “Life Aquatic” (B).

For a longer and wider shawl, work extra repeats of the raindrops brioche pattern, but you will need additional yarn.

Gauge
16 sts and 22 rows over 4” (10 cm) in brioche rib using 4 mm (US 6) needles, after blocking.

Needles
For the body of the shawl: 4 mm (US 6) and 4.5 mm (US 7) 32” (80 cm) circular needles. If you are working the contrast border, you will also need a set of 3 mm (US 2 ½) 32” (80 cm) circular needles.

Notions
Tapestry needle, approx. 200 no 8 glass beads if using), small gauge crochet hook for applying beads.

Skill Level
Advanced. You should be familiar with two-colour brioche knitting, I-Cord bind-off, and placing beads for a beaded bind-off. Instructions are written and charted, and links to helpful video tutorials are provided in the pattern.

Pattern Notes
This triangle-shaped shawl is knit from the bottom up and shaping is provided by regularly spaced increases at the sides of the shawl. The brioche pattern repeats over 12 rows and 24 stitches and makes use of a novel modified four stitch brioche decrease. The top edge of the shawl is finished with an I-cord bind-off, and an optional knitted-on border is worked at the end in either colour A, B or a contrast colour of your choice. Block into a softly rounded bottom or into a triangular shape. Tassels can be added if you want.
