Rail Fence is a classic quilt design, and here it is bracketed with a simple Irish Chain ‘block’. This was designed for the 2025 International Quilt Festival in Houston.

Finished Size:
Chest: 32(36, 40, 44, 48, 52) inches
Length: 14(14.5, 15, 15.5, 16, 16.5) inches from underarm to hem
Sleeve length: 16(16.75, 17.75, 18.5, 19.5, 20) inches from underarm to cuff

Yarn: Chaos Fiber Co. DK, 100% Superwash merino wool, 260 yards/100g. Sample knit in Black Cat (main), Driftwood (neutral), and Moonlight Stroll (contrast). My 44” sample took 4.25 skeins of the main color and less than 1/8 skein of each of the others. Your yardage will vary based on size knit and length.
Plan on 3(3, 4, 5, 6, 7) skeins of main color.

Needles:
US #4/3.5mm circular needle, 32 inches or longer (larger sizes may prefer a longer needle).
Set of US #4/3.5mm double pointed needles or preferred method for small circumference knitting in the round. Or size to make gauge

Gauge: 20 stitches/24 rows per 4” in blocked stockinette stitch.
