Quite a Little Fellow
~This pattern is part of a year-long club, and can only be purchased as part of that club until September 2019, when it will be available for individual sale. Thanks for understanding.~
“You are quite a fine person, Mr. Baggins, and I am very fond of you; but you are only quite a little fellow in the wide world, after all!”
“Thank goodness,” said Bilbo, laughing, and handed him the tobacco jar.
— The Hobbit, chapter 18, J.R.R. Tolkien
Skill-level: Beginning sock knitter. The pattern is a simple combination of knit, purl, and slipped stitches, and is very repetitive.
Materials: 330-380 yards (300-350m) of sock yarn. The socks pictured are a size Large and used approximately 365 yards of Olann Sock Lite in the color Vessel.
Needles: US1 (2.25mm) sock needles (pattern is written for both DPN and magic loop knitters)
Tools: tape measure, tapestry needle, scissors
Gauge: 32 stitches & 36 rounds per 4 inches or 10 cm, measured in stockinette stitch.
Sizing: Small (Medium, Large, Extra-large) sizes measure approximately 8(9,10,11) inches around, leg height, ankle depth, and foot length are all adjustable to fit and preference.
Sizing note: the slipped stitches create a more restrictive fabric. Although not extremely tight, if you are in doubt, I recommend sizing up rather than down, or using a size larger needle.
Abbreviations:
K= knit
P= purl
S= slip
SSK= work a slip-slip-knit over the next two stitches
