Quintessential Crossbody Bag
2021 Slow Yarn Crawl pattern from A Little Knitty!
How’s that? A yarn crawl? Yep - even if you can’t travel, or shops aren’t able to open yet, we’re on: the Slow Crawl is virtual again this year, too! That actually means you can join in from anywhere!
Get a passport from this shop or other participating shops (they’re $10)
Starting May 22nd, visit all the shops - online, or safely in person
Each participating shop will give you the download codes for their pattern and a sticker or stamp for your passport (purchase required for virtual “visits”)
Fill up your passport, and be eligible for prizes!
This super simple bag is worked using Tapestry crochet colorwork. It is constructed continuously in the round so you won’t have an obvious seam region.
The bag is made as one long tube, then folded to form a flap. The button closure is optional.
This bag can transition from a cross-body bag with a long strap, or you can tie a knot in the strap to use it as a regular handbag (or make a shorter strap to keep it as a regular handbag - the choice is yours!)
In my example, color A is mustard, color B is white, and color C is gray.
For all sc’s on main bag, work over the two strands of yarn for the colors you are not currently using. Color changes always happen at the last step of the stitch before the new color. So for a switch from color A to color B, the stitch before color B would look like this - with A, insert hook in stitch, yo and pull up a loop, switch to color B and pull both through both loops on hook.
When you change color, check the tension of your yarn strands to make sure there is not too much slack as you start with a new color.
Difficulty Level:
Size: Final measurements for the bag are approximately 8” wide and 12” long (before folding for flap)
Yarn: 3 balls Concept by Katia Ultrasoft (50g/207y) - I used colors 56, 58, and 60
Hook: Size H (5.0mm)
Gauge: Gauge is worked in pattern (sc in the round working over the other two colors):
Notions: 1 button (1.5”) or toggle
