If you’ve ever pictured yourself in a classic costume drama setting – drawing a rustic shawl around your shoulders as you stumble across a windswept cliff, gazing out to sea – Quercia might be just the thing to indulge that fantasy, while still fitting into your modern wardrobe.
Gansey-type stitches are flanked with cozy garter stitch for a satisfying, texture-rich and timeless knit. Long lines of slipped stitches continue into the seed stitch border, lending structure and polish. Worked in a warm and comforting tonal yarn, Quercia stands out from the madding crowd.
Italian for oak, quercia is pronounced “kw-er-ch-ah” *
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Width (across the top) 166 cm / 65.5”
Depth (at deepest point) 52 cm / 20.5”
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
4.5 mm / US size 7 circular needle. Recommended minimum 100 cm / 40” long
Stitch markers (14) Tapestry needle
Optional: Cable needle (only 1 over 1 cables are worked), and pins for blocking
GAUGE (after blocking)
15 sts and 28 rows over 10 cm / 4” in garter stitch worked flat, after blocking
While gauge is not super critical, it will affect finished size and yarn quantities needed.
YARN
3 skeins of Malabrigo Rios (100% superwash merino; 100 g / 192 m / 210 yards). Samples shown in “Whole Grain” (greige) and “Teal Feather”
OR
575 m / 630 yards of worsted weight yarn; ideally smooth with good stitch definition.
The sample used the full three skeins so you may want to have 4 skeins if you are not working to gauge
This pattern has been tech edited (by Emily Williams) and test knit.
