Errata: The current version of the pattern has omitted instructions for where to place the stripes on the right arm band. Until an update can be issued, here’s what you need to know: The stripes are each two rows deep, and are separated from the arm band chart by two rows of background color.
Accordingly, you will start the first stripe four rows before the arm band chart, or when sleeve is 1.25” shy of desired length to the underarm. Work second stripe two rows after last row of arm band chart.
This sweater is inspired by my spectator status when it comes to body art. As much as I admire tribal tattoos, I am never going to make the lifetime commitment to one. I knit this sweater instead, and named it for Ishmael’s heavily tattoo’d bunkmate in Moby Dick.
Two tattoo options are offered for the back neck detail. Set in sleeves are worked flat, and may be worked as shown or with matching motifs.
Sample shown is 42½”, worn with 1” of ease.
Notions: 2 stitch markers, long stitch holder or extra circular needle in gauge size or smaller or scrap yarn for holding body stitches, extra needle in size to match smaller needle for holding neck stitches, darning needle for weaving in ends
