Prism Mosaic Afghan
A universal symbol recognized for its singular beauty, the diamond denotes a combination of cultural meanings: immortality, purity, and enlightenment, to name a few. Capture the diamond’s timeless beauty in this mosaic design, while working your way through colors like light through a prism.
This rectangular blanket’s prism scheme is worked flat from the foundation chain. The mosaic pattern repeats every 17 rows throughout the body with optional tassels comprising the border on either end. Starting with Row 4, all odd-numbered rows are worked in both the single crochet and mosaic double crochet stitches. Chain spaces will be worked in adherence to those of the previous odd-numbered row in the same color.
First and last single crochet stitch of each row are worked separately from mosaic crochet chart. Charts are read from right to left, representing two rows worked in same color. Second row of each color is worked in a series of single crochet and chain spaces identical to stitches worked in preceding row. Chain spaces count as stitch throughout work. Beginning ch 1 does not count as stitch. Color changes are made in last single crochet where indicated by attaching new color using last two loops of stitch. Use stitch markers to help maintain pattern repetition as needed.
To achieve the gradient of colors shown, change to a new contrast color at each color change working through colors 1–16 as listed above, while maintaining the MC throughout.
