Printempo is an ode to my favorite season, spring. Like the first shoots of spring, tiny leaflets growing on narrow tendrils arise from the toe up the leg. In between, lattices of twisted stitches twine around each other, reaching up for the growing light.

The socks are knitted from the toe up in the round. The pattern features a gusset-and-flap heel construction that doesn’t require picking up stitches. The twisted-stitch pattern is foot hugging, giving a comfortable fit on a wide range of foot sizes. Additionally, instructions are provided to adjust the length of the foot and leg to your measurements and preferences. Right and left socks are identical and can be worked two-at-a-time.

The pattern is written with both metric and US terminology. Both written and charted instructions are given for the stitch patterns.

• Foot and ankle circumference: 21 cm / 8¼“
• Foot length: 23 cm / 9” or adjustable to fit within pattern
• Leg length from cuff to top of heel flap: 15 cm / 6” or adjustable to fit within pattern

MATERIALS
Yarn

• iKKe MCN Sock (85% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon, 365 m/100 g), 1 skein
• or approx. 365 m / 400 yd of fingering-weight sock yarn

Look for a round, high-twist yarn with good stitch definition. This makes the twisted stitches pop.

Needles
2.5 mm / US 1½ DPNs or circular needle(s) for working small circumferences in the round (or size needed to obtain gauge)

Notions

• Cable needle
• Darning needle
• 2 stitch markers (4 if working two-at-a-time)

TECHNIQUES USED
The pattern uses the following techniques: working small circumferences in the round, twisted stitches, and short rows. Ability to follow charts is recommended but written instructions are also provided for the stitch patterns.

The pattern assumes knowledge of some cast-on and bind-off method for toe-up socks; references are given for a couple of alternatives. The pattern also assumes knowledge of working short rows using the wrap-and-turn method.

Printempo-sukat ovat oodi keväälle, mielivuodenajalleni. Näissä sukissa pikkuruiset lehtisilmut kohoavat kohti valoa kuin kylmästä maasta nousevat ensimmäiset varovaiset versot.

Sukat neulotaan pyöröneuleena varpaista varteen. Ohjeessa käytetty kantapäärakenne on sellainen, että kantalapusta ei tarvitse poimia silmukoita. Kierretyillä silmukoilla tehtävä neulepinta myötäilee jalkaa napakasti, joten leveytensä puolesta nämä sukat mahtuvatkin mainiosti monenkokoiselle sukankäyttäjälle. Sen lisäksi voit muokata sekä jalkaterän että varren pituutta mieleiseksesi. Oikea ja vasen sukka ovat keskenään samanlaiset, ja ne voi neuloa kaksi yhtä aikaa samalla pyöröpuikolla.
