A knitter’s way of storing summer flowers for years to come is to knit them in everyday items like socks. Preserve the beautiful blooms to bring floral joy year-round. And the best part about the knitted Pressed Flowers? You can make them in any season, no need to wait for fresh blooms!
In addition to the big, beautiful flower motif, Pressed Flowers has simple colorwork bands and a contrasting cuff and toe. Besides the ribbed cuff, these socks are knit in stockinette stitch in sport weight yarn, so they knit up surprisingly quickly.
Materials
• Yarn: 2 (3, 3) skeins of Tukuwool Sock (80% wool, 20% nylon; 160 m / 175 yds per 50 g); 1 (2, 2) skeins of MC and 1 skein of CC
or 230-270 m / 252-296 yds of sport weight sock yarn; 160-200 m / 175-219 yds of MC and 70 m / 77 yds of CC
• Needles: 2.25 mm / US 1 dpns or size needed to obtain gauge
• 4 stitch markers
Note that the length of your foot also affects the yardage requirements. I recommend getting a second skein of MC even for the smaller size to make sure you don’t run out of yarn.
The sample is size S, with a foot length of 23 cm / 9”, and was knit using Tukuwool Sock in Humu (MC) and Haave (CC).
Gauge
26 sts x 38 rnds = 10 cm / 4” in stockinette stitch knit in the round after blocking.
Size
S (M, L)
Flower motif circumference: 19 (20.5, 21.5) cm / 7.5 (8, 8.5)”
Notes
The socks are knit cuff down. The sample was knit with dpns, but the instructions are suited for all methods of sock knitting.
You may want to size up your needle for the Flower Chart, if you knit colorwork tighter than your normal gauge.
If you want to use only 2 skeins of yarn (1 skein of each color), you can reverse your colors on the other sock.
