Prairie Mittens
This stitch pattern is reminiscent of the abundant bundles of wheat that we see dotting the Alberta prairies each year. The special details in these mittens give them sassy flair, and make them an extremely enjoyable and quick pair to knit up. Using luxurious mohair adds extra warmth which is perfect for a long, cold prairie winter.
Sample is:
- knit in CANYON colour (both yarns)
- size 1
- weighs 65 g
Pattern Highlights:
-
Prairie Mittens are knit using the Magic Loop method. One long circular needle will hold the stitches for both the palm and back of mitten. N1 holds the back of hand and thumb stitches, N2 holds the palm stitches. Feel free to substitute your favourite method for knitting in the round.
-
Pattern includes instructions for two sizes
-
To make a smaller mitten, follow directions for Size 1 using a smaller needle. (4.0mm/US 6: small sample weighed 54 g)
-
Pattern is written to be knit holding two yarns together (one strand each of DK and the mohair silk throughout). You can substitute any yarn that gives the same gauge as stated in the pattern.
-
The palm of the mitten is knit in garter stitch. This is to accommodate the row gauge of the stitch pattern on the back of the mitten. Knitting the palm in stockinette stitch will result in a palm that is longer than the back of the mitten.
-
All stitches are slipped as if to purl with yarn in front.
-
This is a very quick to knit pattern. Many testers knitted a pair in one weekend.
This pattern:
- has written and charted instructions
- has been professionally technically edited
- test knit by generous knitters ( thank you all so much!)
- contains links to video tutorials for both Magic Loop and Long Tail Cast On**
