Powder Snow Mitts
Ice crystals and the elegant traces carved by skiers into fresh powder snow: find these wintery memories in the textured design of Powder Snow Mitts.
Powder Snow Mitts feature a combination of smooth stocking stitch and texture (ideal for showcasing a special skein of variegated yarn), with cable details on the back and along the edge of the hand. The increases for the thumb follow the natural shape of your hand, resulting in an extra comfortable fit.
Skills required: Knitting and purling in the round, working yarn overs, increasing and decreasing stitches, and cabling over four stitches. A tubular cast-on and bind-off are recommended and involve grafting live stitches with Kitchener stitch, but they can be substituted with any stretchy method of your choice. Both charts and written instructions are included.
Thank you to Ellen Mason for letting me adopt the concept of a fully shaped thumb seen in her Fried Chicken Mittens.
Many thanks also to my test knitters JoEmy, kimmyz, knittingall and chau7 and to DancingGeek for tech editing. Your input was much appreciated, and it’s been a pleasure to work with you!
