Named after a music style popularized in the Romantic era, this sweater is inspired by the silk dresses of that period, which featured leg-of-mutton (or Gigot) sleeves and wide V-necks. Updated for modern lifestyle, this sweater features a relaxed fit (no need for corsets!), a V-neck that stays on the shoulders, and Gigot sleeves that won’t catch in doorways. Made in a worsted-weight wool, it will keep you warm in winter while still looking elegant. This sweater will be a dramatic centerpiece of any ensemble, and can be worn casually with jeans on weekends, with slacks for work days, or perhaps even with a full, floor-length taffeta skirt for a night out.

Finished size: 30 (34, 37½, 42½) {46½, 49½, 53½}“ bust circumference. Shown in Brown Sheep Company in size 34 and in Knit Picks in size 37 ¼.

Yarn: Brown Sheep Company Nature Spun Worsted Weight, 100% wool; 250 yards/ 3.5 oz: Color 720W “Ash” - 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7) balls.

Yarn: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Superwash, 100% Peruvian Highland Wool; 110 yards/ 50 g: Bramble Heather - 10 (10, 12, 12, 14, 16, 16) balls.

Needles: US #6 (4 mm) and US #8 (5 mm) suitable for working flat. US #6 (4 mm) 16” circular needles needed for neckband. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge. Smaller needles should be 2 US sizes smaller than the larger needles used to obtain gauge.

Notions: 2 stitch markers, yarn needle, locking stitch marker.

Gauge: 19.5 sts x 26 rows = 4” (10 cm) in both St st and Spider Stitch pattern on larger needles.
