Point Pinos
Point Pinos is a design built directly into CustomFit, which means that each Point Pinos pattern is written specifically to your choice of gauge and size.
Point Pinos is part of the 2017 make. wear. love. west retreat collection. I used the exquisite Shibui Twig and Cima held together to make an easy, elegant take on my favorite style: An open cardigan that can be closed with my favorite Jul Closure of the day.
The sweater is as flattering as it is comfortable, with simple rolled and 1x1 ribbed edges and subtle waist shaping on the back only. It’s worked in pieces from the bottom up with a set-in sleeve. The generous collar is then picked up and added, without buttonholes; bulk is taken out of the back neck by folding in half and adding gathers. (I’ve made a photo tutorial on how to do this - click here to see it.)
The sample uses a long sweater length and long sleeves, but you can change either before creating your pattern by selecting different lengths on this page. This sweater uses hourglass shaping, on the back of the sweater only.
One note on materials: Point Pinos’ rolled edges are only practical because of the utter lack of memory in the (fairly heavy) yarns I used. If you’re using a springy wool, please substitute a small ribbed edge.
The blend of linen, silk, alpaca, and wool in Shibui Cima/Twig makes for a soft, slightly fuzzy linen fabric. Shibui makes an incredibly wearable line of luxury yarns that are meant to be held together in different combinations. I love them all, and all of them have the right kind of drape to make a beautiful Point Pinos.
At a gauge of approximately 5.75 stitches and 8 rows to 1” (2.5 cm), for a standard size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ garment you’ll need approximately 4 (5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8) hanks of Cima and 7 (8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 12, 12, 13, 14) hanks of Twig.
If you’re using a different mix or gauge, I strongly recommend Hannah Fettig’s excellent app Stashbot for yardage estimates. Because while I’ve given approximate quantities for standard size sweaters, CustomFit will make Point Pinos in the size and gauge of your choice. (And it’s pretty tough to give yardage requirements for any possible combination!)
