The two sizes are worked on exactly the same number of stitches, with the difference in size being achieved by using slightly thinner yarn and thinner needles for size medium. So the pattern stitch gauge for medium is 48 stitches and 46 rounds = 4 inches, and for large it is 42 stitches and 36 rounds = 4 inches. Figure total yardage at about 425 yards for size L and 400 yards for size M.

The single columns of knit stitches maintain neatness throughout their travels by being consistently twisted, or knitted through the back loop, whether going straight or being crossed. The design is essentially concentric diamonds, but I changed the diamonds into leaves by doing two things: making a straight center spine and straightening the stitch columns on the top half of each inner diamond to make veins. That means any leafy color could be used, not just poinsettia colors.
