Life is a journey. Each of us follows a path from birth to death. Due to the nature of linear time, we can’t go back and change choices we’ve made or things that happened to us – we just have to move forward, even through life’s unexpected twists and turns. It’s these twists and turns that shape who we become as a person in the end.

In this double-knitted scarf, short-row wedges continually change the direction of the path, based on rolls of an 8-sided die. Depending on the numbers you roll, you may end up with a relatively straightforward path, or one that ends up traveling in a more convoluted way. But because the path never takes more than a 180-degree turn, it never doubles back on itself.

The pattern was originally released as a KAL, and there is a narrative side-quest of sorts in the Plot Twist KAL post on the Fallingblox Designs group if you’re interested in that element.

Thanks to Patrick Stewart for the pattern name! My original title was not as good.
