One of my favorite afternoon activities is knitting and sipping a chai latte at my favorite coffee shop, Plenty Cafe. The calm atmosphere and great music are conducive to thinking, designing, and pattern writing.

Here, I’ve taken my favorite shawl shape/blank knitting canvas, the asymmetrical triangle, and created a garter eyelet fabric that is background to a pop of color worked in a gathered anemone stitch.

There is a photo tutorial at the end of the pattern that shows step by step how to execute the anemone stitch.

The finished measurements are a wingspan of 58” and a center back of 25”. These measurements are after blocking; blocking more or less aggressively will affect the finished size of the shawl.

The shawl calls for fingering weight yarn: 435 yards of Color A, 265 yards of Color B, and 85 yards of Color C.

The sample shown is worked in Highland Fingering by Cloudborn Fibers in Grey Heather (Color A) and Charcoal Heather (Color B), and Highland Superwash Sock Twist by Cloudborn Fibers in Coral (Color C).

You will need a US size 5 (3.75mm) 32” circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. Exact gauge is not crucial. Use a needle size that gives you a fabric that you like, but be aware that a change in gauge can affect the amount of yarn used and the size of the finished shawl.
