Playtime Dog Sweater
Dive into your collection of leftover fingering weight yarns and knit this adorable stashbusting sweater for your dog! Choose between nine sizes from petite pups to big breeds. The pattern includes several sizing notes to help you customize your chosen size to perfectly fit your pup. The length of the yoke, body, and legs are very easy to customize by working more or fewer rounds of reverse stockinette stitch. There is an optional harness hole in the pattern, so you can style the sweater on top of your dog’s harness. Hold two strands of fingering weight yarn throughout the entire project as you mix and marl your colors to create a melted color landscape.
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9)
Size 3 shown on the beige French Bulldog named Bobble with an actual Girth (chest) circumference of 16.5″ / 42cm.
Size 4 shown on the black French Bulldog named Brioche with an actual Girth (chest) circumference of 22″ / 56cm.
Finished Measurements: 13 (14.5, 19, 22.5, 25.5) (29, 32, 35, 40)″ / 33 (37, 48, 57, 65) (4, 81, 89, 102)cm Girth (chest) circumference (measured around the thickest part of their chest). Measurements taken after blocking.
The length is customizable. Refer to the schematic illustrations for the other measurements. The pattern includes notes where you can customize the sizes of the sweater to fit your pup. The smaller sizes are designed for petite pups like Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus, and little Terriers and the sizes increase to fit breeds ranging from French Bulldogs and Dachsunds to Boxers, Labradors, and Great Danes. If your dog’s Girth/chest circumference measures more than 42″ / 107cm, then this pattern is easy to customize by adding more increase rounds for a larger size. You can also adjust your needle size to get a smaller or larger size.
I recommend selecting a size that is approximately 1″ / 2.5cm or 2″ / 5cm larger than your dog’s actual chest circumference for a fit with a little bit of extra wiggle room or select the size that matches your dog’s exact chest circumference for a fitted sweater. If you plan to wear the sweater on top of a harness most of the time, then measure your dog while wearing the harness.
For the best measuring results, use as soft tape measure.

Yarn is held double throughout the entire fabric. I recommend gathering a big pile of leftover fingering weight yarns, so you have more than enough color options and yarn amounts to choose from.
