Plain and Open Crochet Purses
This pattern is from a section called “The Work Table” and is on page 135.
There are two different “plain and open” purses in this issue. They use gold and steel beads.
For the first:
It will take five skeins of ponceau silk, one of black, and two of green, to form a purse about nine inches in length.
For the second
Commence with two rows of open crochet, and fine netting silk of a dead gold colour…
It will take three skeins of blue silk1, two of gold colour, one of black, and one of ponceau. The silk should be fine.
The size crochet hook isn’t mentioned but it would be a steel hook (under 2mm) and the thread specified is fine netting silk. The terminology is going to be closer to modern UK crochet terms but there are differences.
-
within the pattern it references three distinct shades of blue. ↩
