Mad about plaid? Well, I am, and it’s about time for a plaid knit pumpkin! Knit in the round in a fairly easy Fair Isle design, these pumpkins will complement your fall décor for years to come. This pattern includes several colorwork charts, as well as a striped version which requires no stranding. If you would like to make a pumpkin using a single color of yarn, shaping instructions are included on page 10. Experiment with different weights of yarn and different color combinations to add more delightful pumpkins to your pumpkin patch.

Skills Needed: Working with two colors, working in the round, reading colorwork charts, kfb, kfbf, m1r and m1l increases, k2tog, p2tog and ssk decreases, i-cord.

Diameter: Approximately 8-10 in. 20.3-25.4 cm.
Height: Approximately 4 in. 10 cm.
Diameter and height will vary depending on amount of fiberfill used.

Yarn: About 200 yds (183 m) each of two contrasting colors of fingering weight yarn.

Scrap yarn (optional) in green or brown for tendrils. 10 yds 9 m should be more than enough to make 1 large tendril.

Needles:
Double pointed needles: US size 3 3.25 mm and US size 4 3.5 mm
Circular needles: US size 3 3.25 mm and US size 4 3.5 mm - 16 in. 40 cm in length

Gauge: 37.5 sts and 33.8 rnds = 4 in. 10 cm in plaid pattern. This pattern is worked at a tighter gauge than normal so the fiberfill does not show through fabric. Additionally, this particular type of stranding pulls the fabric in more than normal stranding does.

Other Materials: Stitch markers if desired, small tapestry needle, tape measure, 1 bag (16 oz.) polyester fiberfill (you will not need the entire bag), 1 in. 2.5 cm button (optional).

Tech edited and test knitted.
