Pippi's Shawl
This pattern is one of 4 patterns in the For the Love of Stories eBook. Unfortunately, individual pattern purchases cannot be credited toward the purchase of the eBook.
Join me in my group, Heather Anderson Designs, and let’s knit!
Pippi Longstocking was an inspiring book character to create a shawl around. Never afraid of a challenge, Pippi would undoubtedly choose at least three colors for a shawl! Worked from the top center out, this pattern is easy and fun to knit. Wrap and turn short rows are used to create curves (no picking up wraps necessary). The curvy shape of this shawl wears well draped over the shoulders or wrapped as a scarf.
Bust your stash and choose complimentary or contrasting colors to achieve very different looks. This project can also be worked with just two colors. Combine CC1 and CC2 for a 2-color version with no stripes, or combine the MC and CC2 for a striped two-color version! Check out the variety of combinations under “projects” for inspiration.
Finished Size: approx. 60” wide x 16” deep (152 x 40 cm) after blocking.
Materials:
• 3 colors fingering weight yarn, such as Malabrigo sock, madelinetosh tosh merino light, or Baah! La Jolla, approx. MC—orange 200 yds (183 m), CC1—white 250 yds (228 m), CC2—blue 110 yds (100 m)
• US Size 5 (3.75 mm) 32” (81 cm) or longer circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• Stitch markers, tapestry needle
Gauge: 19 sts = 4” (10 cm) in garter stitch after blocking
Note: This shawl may be worked with lighter or heavier weight yarns. If you change the yarn weight, make sure that you choose a needle size that gives you the drape you desire in the fabric. Yardage requirements will change based on yarn weight and gauge.
