In Italy, the pines grow mostly on the coastal areas. The pinetas, pine forests follow the coastline allowing shade before one reaches the beach. The pines are not as tall as up north, and they have the famous umbrella-like shape. The pinecones are huge, bigger than my fist.
This crescent shape shawl is worked top down. Knitting begins with a garter tab cast on. Increases are made on all rows. The shawl body alternates garter stitch with cone shaped lace. The slip stitch pattern uses only 1 color per row. The edge lace seems more intricate than it is to knit.
