Pine Barrens
Pine Barrens is a top down triangular shawl which can be worked with a special hand-dyed yarn from At Knits End Yarns (now discontinued, but was sold as a kit), or with any yarn, or yarns, of your choice. The simple openwork of the body of the shawl, lends itself to any weight of yarn. You can knit it all with one yarn, or change yarns after working an odd number of repeats of the body of the shawl.
This pattern includes both charted and written instructions.
The 2 toned sample used 80 grams of suggested yarn, less than 437 yards, and is a perfect one-skein project, or an opportunity to use smaller amounts of 2 colors of yarn.
The Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light version (shown in Jade) used approximately 336 yards.
The shawl can be made bigger/smaller by working more/less repeats of Chart B,
And/or more or less repeats of the last 6 rows of Chart C.
Instructions and stitch counts are given for customization.
You can use any weight yarn and substitute needles that are at least 2 sizes larger than what is recommended for your choice of yarn!
This is the only shawl I’ve needed to use a lifeline on, because if you lose a stitch, it’ll be lost like Paulie and Christopher were in the Pine Barrens episode of The Sopranos. I seriously recommend using a lifeline, and have included a link to a video tutorial in the pattern.:)
