Simple, striking, and meditative.

The Pike Place Shawl is inspired by Explorer Knits and Fiber’s iconic and show stopping bright red Pike Place colorway! This shawl is designed to be simple and easy to knit and wear. I’ve also added a two color option to help you use up those two special sock skeins in your stash.

The Pike Place shawl begins with an I-cord tab cast on. From there knitters will pick up stitches and begin the alternating texture sections of garter and half twisted rib with increases along the sides. The I-cord is continued along the edge of the shawl for a uniform look. The shawl can be knit in one or two colors (or more if you’d like to be extra creative!).
Given that this is a shawl gauge is not super duper important. Your gauge will impact your total yardage (so keep an eye on how much you have left!). The shawl size is easily customizable - just repeat more or fewer sections.

3.75 mm* • US size 5 • Long circular needle (sample used a 60” (150cm) cord)

NOTIONS
Scissors, 2 stitch markers, darning needle, a needle one size larger for binding off (if you struggle to bind off loosely, consider going up 2 needle sizes from your main needle)

GAUGE (4 x 4”)
26 sts x 42 rows in garter stitch.
Since this is an accessory pattern, fit is not essential. Meeting gauge will help you stay within the yardage requirements. However, this pattern is easily adaptable! So feel free to adjust as needed.
