Pigasus Socks
Once upon a time there was a little piggy who looked up to the sky and saw the birds flying overhead. That night the little piggy, legs twitching in his sleep, had a dream that he could fly…
Inspired by a statue of a flying pig, the Pigasus socks are a quirky design available in 3 sizes. Knit from the cuff down with a Fleegle style heel, the number of stitches for the colourwork section increases to provide enough room for the sock to fit over the heel. The number of stitches increased is different for each sock size. As there are some long floats involved it is recommended that the knitter has some prior experience with stranded colourwork.
SIZES
To fit mid foot circumference of approx
Small: 17.5cm (7”) 56 stitches
Medium: 20cm (8”) 64 stitches
Large: 22.5cm (9”) 72 stitches
Yarns used for samples in photo second from top:
Left: Medium socks shown in Jelly Bean Fibres 4 ply sock yarn (80% Merino, 20% Nylon) in the Happy as a Pig in Mud twin pack. Although the speckles in this yarn reduce the contrast between the main and contrast colours I couldn’t resist using a yarn called Happy as a Pig in Mud to end up with a mud-speckled piggy!
Middle: Small socks shown in MC Dingo Dyeworks Ridgy Didge Sturt Stony (85% Merino, 15% Nylon, 400m/437 yds per 100g) and CC Heathermaid Supreme Sock (75% wool, 24% Nylon, 423m/463 yds per 100g) in Mallee. For this pair the CC was used for the cuff and leg and the MC was only used for the background of the chart section. The name chart was omitted from this sock.
Right: Large socks shown in Vintage Purls Superstar (70% Polwarth, 20% Tussah Silk, 10% Merino, 380m/415 yds per 100g) MC Cassiopeia CC Natural Talent
Main photo shows large size modelled on a man with shoe size UK/AUS 10, US 10.5, EUR 44 and used approx 80g main colour and 15g contrast colour.
