Petiole
This nature-inspired pullover is knit seamlessly on circular needles from the top down. The yoke features colorwork in a botanical motif. One of my goals in designing this pattern was to create colorwork that is not too difficult for relatively new knitters to navigate, yet engaging for experienced knitters; only two colors are worked throughout the yoke at the same time, and most rows have relatively short floats. Petiole is a cozy and relaxed sweater designed to be worn with some positive ease. (This pattern is written for six sizes.) The neckline has short row shaping. Sleeve, body, and yoke length can easily be adjusted to suit your style.
YARN
The sample pictured was knit using rustic Plötulopi, a light and lofty unspun Icelandic wool yarn. You may, of course, substitute the yarn of your choice, keeping in mind the specified gauge.
Plötulopi by Ístex (100% new wool, unspun) 100 g and approx. 300 m/328 yds per ”plate” in the following shades:
Black Heather (main color) – 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5) plates
Light Ash Heather (contrasting color) – 1 plate for all sizes
NEEDLES
• Size US 3 / 3.25 mm circular needles in appropriate lengths for neck and hem ribbing, and DPNs for sleeve ribbing
• Size US 5 / 3.75 mm (24”) circular needles and DPNs for main gauge (body and sleeves)
You may need to go up or down needle sizes to meet gauge.
NOTIONS
Stitch markers, stitch holders (or scrap yarn), tapestry needle
GAUGE
20 sts and 26 rounds= 4 in/ 10 cm. Gauge was measured over stockinette stitch (in main gauge needles) after blocking.
