Peppermelon is a beautifully simple sweater that knits up in no time. I just love the way a delicate lace looks in a chunky yarn, and when I swatched this leafy motif with this skein of Roots and Rain Yarns Homestead, I was hooked.

The sweater features a leaf design with just a touch of cables, and these lace panels on front and back shape both the neckline and the hem of the sweater into subtle scallops.

In my mind, it’s the perfect thing to reach for as winter turns to spring. The delicate motif and a sophisticated pink add the perfect amount of springtime to a warm, rustic wool.

It’s worked from the top down with a bit of shaping at the back neck. The yoke is increased along raglan seams, and then both body and sleeves are worked in the round to end.

Sizing reflects circumference of sweater around bust and is based on final fabric. For the fit shown, choose the finished size that allows for about 4-6”/10-15.25cm of positive ease, based on your actual bust.

If substituting yarn, a natural wool fiber with a bit of heather will provide the for the subtly rustic look shown on my sample. Homestead is a naturally dyed yarn, so the subtle vareigation in shading and the subtle quality of the dye show off the lace beautifully. A tweed, heather, subtle semi-solid, or a natural shade yarn will also work well. Note that the scalloped effect of the lace may vary with substitute fibers.
