Penzance
I decided to use this design as an opportunity to experiment with collar shapes. I decided on the relatively uncommon sailor collar, which allows stitch patterns to shine due to its minimal shaping in the back. In this design, framing cables that border a complex lace panel in the front take center stage in the back collar. The cables reappear on the sleeves, while the back is plain to highlight the collar. The central panel, composed of lace, twisted stitches, and cables, shows up beautifully above the slight halo of the yarn. The piece is worked in the round to the armholes, and then split to work the front and back sections separately. Optional waist-shaping gives an hourglass shape. The sleeves are worked in the round to the cap, then worked flat and set in. The shoulders are sewn and the collar is formed using stitches from the front and back necklines. At a lighter weight, this sweater is perfect for the transition from fall to winter.
