Pebbles Headband
This headband is a simple Fair Isle knit suitable for beginners to Fair Isle and to knitting in the round. The headband can be tweaked as to size: it can be made narrower by skipping the first and last row of the chart; the circumference can be changed by adding or subtracting pattern repeats. It can also easily be turned into a cowl by adding rows to the bottom and top ribs. Please not that any additions of rows of pattern repeats will demand more yarn.
You can choose whether to have your pattern colours go from dark to light, or from light to dark, depending on your preference. Example pictures are given for both. All examples have the darkest colour as the background colour, but that can of course also be swapped as per preference. You can optionally choose to knit your rib in the flat, which tends to give a firmer tension.
This cowl uses 4x25g JW (jumperweight) yarn.
Needle size
size S: 2.25mm for the rib and monochrome rows and 2.5mm for the pattern rows
size M: 2.75mm for the rib and monochrome rows and 3mm for the pattern rows
size L: 3.25mm for the rib and monochrome rows and 3.5mm for the pattern rows
You can also choose to tweak the measurements by changing the size of the needles. This yarn is extremely pliable and forgiving, so you will find that you can tweak the size a fair bit whenblocking your piece.
Tension
Size S: 26 sts and 33 rounds over Fair Isle pattern in the round (after blocking) = 10 cm.
Size M: 24 sts and 31 rounds over Fair Isle pattern in the round (after blocking) = 10 cm.
Size L: 22 sts and 29 rounds over Fair Isle pattern in the round (after blocking) = 10 cm.
It is always wise to do a swatch to establish your tension; adjust your needle size accordingly.
Size
Finished circumference: ca 46/50.5/55 cm (S/M/L)
Length: ca 12 cm
Size can be adjusted by using larger or smaller needles.
