These ankle socks are knit cuff-down using the Magic Loop method and are designed to build confidence in foundational sock techniques. Worked in four colors, each color fades into the next with short gradient sections, making this a great project for practicing color changes and yarn management.

Bonus! This pattern also includes instructions for a miniature sock keychain or bag charm — the perfect way to swatch your gauge, practice the techniques on a small scale, and/or make a sweet keepsake for a knitting friend. The mini sock is a fun, fast bonus project that uses scraps from your Pebble Fade palette.

YARN (4 COLORS TO FADE) in DK Weight
Note: These yarn amounts are estimates. Any changes that knitters make to gauge or the sock’s measurements will change the amount of yarn you’ll need.

Color A (Cuff & Toe): 15 (15, 15, 15, 15, 15) yds / 14 (14, 14, 14, 14, 14) m
Color B (Fade & Heel): 95 (110, 110, 125, 125, 145) yds / 85 (100, 100, 115, 115, 135) m
Color C (Fade): 35 (40, 45, 45, 50, 60) yds / 30 (35, 40, 40, 45, 55) m
Color D (Fade): 35 (40, 45, 45, 50, 60) yds / 30 (35, 40, 40, 45, 55) m

For the sample (Size 1), I used:
Color A (Pink): The Wandering Flock DK in colorway Celosia (100% Extra Fine Superwash Merino Wool, 230 yds / 210 m per 100 grams)

Colors B, C & D (Fade): Lavender Lune “Soft Sock” DK in colorways Fiberweek, Icy Agate and Dogsled, respectively
(90% Superwash Fine Merino, 10% Nylon, 246 yds / 225 m per 100 grams)

GAUGE
27 sts and 40 rnds = 4ʺ / 10 cm in Stockinette Stitch, in the round, on gauge needles, after blocking.

NEEDLES*
You’ll need one size of circular needles in two lengths. First, knit a gauge swatch to determine the size needle that you need for the sock. See the included Mini Sock Pattern beginning on page 7, which can serve as a gauge swatch.

US Size 3 / 3.25 mm
One 32ʺ / 80 cm circular needle for Magic Loop knitting
One 16ʺ / 40 cm circular needle for Turning the Heel
Always choose the needle size that you need in order to obtain the pattern’s gauge.
