Peaky
A simple hat with just a touch of stranded colourwork to make for an intersting colour transition. Three sizes are provided.
Ideal for using up single balls or scraps of DK yarn from stash. Make plenty and send them into the world to keep people warm in the colder months.
Materials
- 0.5 skein of Vintage Purls Max (75% Superwash N.Z. Merino/25% nylon; 208 metres/227 yards per 100g skein) in colour A.
- 0.5 skein of Vintage Purls Max (75% Superwash N.Z. Merino/25% nylon; 208 metres/227 yards per 100g skein) in colour B.
Or other New Zealand DK (8ply) yarn. N.Z. DK is often thicker than yarns manufactured elsewhere, look for something with a meterage of about 100m per 50g.
- 4.00mm 40cm circular needle or size that gives you gauge.
- 3.25mm 40cm circular needle or size three sizes smaller than the needle above.
- 4.00mm (or size that gives you gauge) long circular or double-point needles for working crown decreases.
- A stitch marker.
Gauge
24 stitches and 32 rows in 10cm (4”) in blocked stocking stitch. Be aware that superwash yarn often grows with blocking. If you want your hat to be a specific size then take the time to swatch and block that swatch. But otherwise, knit away and be content with finding a head to fit your hat when done.
Size
Small: to fit a head approximately 48cm - 50cm (19” - 20”) in circumference.
Medium: to fit a head approximately 53cm - 55cm (21” - 22”) in circumference.
Large: to fit a head approximately 58cm - 60cm (23” - 24”) in circumference.
