These peacock slippers inspired by the birds and styled after a pair of my mother’s slippers from China are easy to knit. They are cozy, small, and great to take on your travels. Felting them adds thickness and warmth. The bead embroidery pays homage to the vivid peacock, with the sequins symbolizing the iridescent feathers.

Finished Size 9” circumference and 9.5” long from back of heel to tip of toe.

Yarn Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 (100% wool): #9542 blaze, 2 skeins.

Needles Size 10.5 (6.5 mm): straight and set of double-pointed. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers; tapestry needle; mesh laundry bag; embroidery backing (optional); embroidery floss in dark green, dark purple, dark blue, and medium green; size 8/0 seed beads in emerald green, gold, copper, and dark blue; sequins in purple; beading needle and thread.

Gauge 14 sts and 20 rows = 4” in St st with 2 strands of yarn held tog, before felting.

Note These slippers are worked back and forth from the heel to the toe, then worked in the round to the end of the toe shaping. The slippers are then felted and embroidered.
