The universal symbol of peace. Nonviolence. Let there be peace, and let it begin with me.

Peaceful is a versatile pattern that can be made with any yarn. Use what you’ve got! Gather all of your yarn scraps and put them to use in service of peace.

Use dk or sport weight yarn to make a small flag for peaceful protests or a baby blanket. With dk weight yarn and a 5 mm hook, you can make a 36” (91.44 cm) square baby blanket. Use worsted, bulky, or super bulky weight yarn to make a larger blanket.

Finished size: The sample is 26” square (66 cm) using dk weight yarn and a 2.75 mm hook. For a larger peace sign, use a larger hook and/or thicker yarn.

The sample used dk weight (light weight category 3) Lion Brand Mandala yarn as both the MC and the CC yarn (100% acrylic; 590 yds/540 m per 150-gram cake).

Main color (MC): About 550 yards (503 m) background color to make the sample size. This is about 140 grams of dk weight yarn scraps.

Contrast color (CC): About 240 yards (219 m) for the peace sign for the sample size. This is about 60 g dk weight yarn scraps.

Hook: Use the hook size recommended on the yarn label to make a blanket, or use a hook that is 2 mm or 3 mm smaller than recommended to make a peaceful protest flag or wall hanging. The sample used a 2.75 mm (C) hook.

Requires chain and double crochet stitches in US terms. The pattern includes written row-by-row instructions and a chart. Here is a little video showing the technique to change colors, add new yarns, and crochet over the yarn tails: https://youtu.be/MwC0QK-EOSA?si=i8ZUoral7oxVApVV
