This short scarf is the perfect size for a cozy warm wrap around the neck on a cold winter night…OR…seam it together and it becomes a cowl. Either way, this classic Japanese stich pattern is an easy example of “lace knitting” as opposed to “knitted lace”. The difference, you ask. Lace knitting is created by working yarnovers on both the right side and the wrong side rows. I remember this by the fact that in knitted lace, the “lace” comes after knitting…or second, which in my mind, is relates to the “second” row. In contrast in lace knitting, the “lace” come first, and the yarnovers creating the lace are worked only on the first row. Silly perhaps, but it works for me. Enjoy this relaxing project.
