Palù is a boxy sweater worked flat and sewed together, characterized by its asymmetrical shape with a longer back. Thanks to the combination between the yarn and the waffle stitch, it’s a light yet comfy and warm piece. It’s easy to wear above pants, or skirts.
When you knit your swatch for a flat project, it is important to make it flat. Be generous with your stitches: when swatches are too small, they tend to not be very accurate. It is very important to wash and dry the swatch before measuring: many yarns will expand after washing, and this has impacts the final measurements of the garment.
This knitted squares can be a last resource yarn in case of “yarn chicken”, can be useful as pot holders, or be stitched together to form some patchwork projects.
Some save the swatches for the future, in case they will knit again with the same yarn. I (Martina) prefer to swatch a new piece every time, as my knitting tension is influenced by many things year after year, and also the same yarn can be different, depending on the color and on the production time.

“Palù’’ is named after the village of Palù nel Fersina, nestled in the heart of Valle dei Mòcheni. It is one of the places that guards the centuries-old traditions of the valley’s people and for this is home to the cultural institute Istituto Culturale Mòcheno. You can enjoy a spectacular view from the village, that is the starting point of some great hikes, with trails going up to Lake Erdèmolo and the Rifugio Sette Selle.

Palù è un maglione boxy lavorato in piano a pezzi e cucito, caratterizzato da una struttura asimmetrica tra il davanti e il dietro. Grazie alla combinazione tra punto Waffle e struttura del filato scelto, risulta leggero ma caldo e confortevole.
Perfetto da indossare con i pantaloni o sopra un abito.
È importante, quando realizziamo il campione per un capo in piano, farlo in piano. Siate generosi con le misure: i campioni troppo piccoli non sono accurati. È molto importante anche lavare e asciugare il campione prima della misurazione per ottenere la misura della nostra tensione più precisa possibile: molti filati tendono a gonfiarsi in seguito al lavaggio, andando a modificare le misure del capo ultimato.
Queste mattonelle possono diventare utili come estrema scorta di filato in caso di “yarn chicken” (nota: quando stiamo quasi per finire un progetto, ma terminiamo il filato!), oppure possono trovare un utilizzo come presine, o cucite insieme per fare coperte patchwork. Alcune persone conservano i campioni a futura memoria: personalmente (Martina) preferisco sempre rifare il campione, perché la mia tensione è influenzata da molti fattori e può cambiare a distanza di tempo e i filati possono cambiare nel tempo a seconda di bagni di colore e momenti diversi nella produzione.

“Palù” prende nome dal paese di Palù nel Fersina, nel cuore della valle dei Mocheni, uno dei luoghi custodi delle tradizioni secolari delle genti del posto: infatti è sede dell’Istituto Culturale Mòcheno. Dal paese si gode di una vista spettacolare sulla catena del Lagorai, ed è un buon punto di partenza per escursioni che portano fino al Lago di Erdèmolo e il rifugio Sette Selle.
