This Tunisian crochet pattern is an airy lace stole that is perfect for tropical summer nights as well as for air-conditioned offices.
Conventional and extended Tunisian stitches combine to produce beautiful lace. The luxuriant border combines two rows of diamonds separated by a puff stitch row. A conventional crochet hook is used for the bind off and the delicate scallop chain edging.
Pattern is both written and charted.
Skill level: Advanced beginner (knowledge of basic Tunisian crochet stitches).
Construction: The stole is worked over two halves from the center to the bind off edge. Stitches for the second half are picked up in the foundation row and worked in the opposite direction - the join looks almost invisible and no seaming is needed!
Yarn: Kelbourne Woolens Mojave (60% cotton, 40% linen; 185 yds/50 gm skein): turquoise 440, 3 skeins.
Gauge: 14 sts and 8 rows = 4” (10 cm) on Tunisian hook in Body pattern after blocking.
Hooks: J/10 (6 mm) Tunisian crochet hook with 12” cord. E/4 (3.5 mm) crochet hook (for bind-off). Adjust hook size to obtain gauge.
Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Size: 13.5” (34.5 cm) width, 69” (175.5 cm) length.
