The Painted Pebbles blanket it a striking and colourful design with a gorgeous raised texture of coloured ‘pebbles’ against a white background. I have used rainbow coloured pebbles for my version, but there is no end to the possible colour schemes you could choose.

This pattern is written in both UK and US terms. You will receive a copy of both versions with your purchase.

  • uses Double Knit weight yarn. I have used Paintbox Yarns Simply DK, but this could be substituted with other brands, for example, Stylecraft Special DK

  • includes instructions for both a lap sized blanket and a baby blanket.

For the smaller blanket you will need between 1 and 2 100g skeins of your main colour and one skein of each of the colours for the stripes. How much you will use of each shade will depend on your colour sequence.

For the larger blanket you will need between 3 and 4 100g skeins of your main colour and one skein of each of the colours for the stripes, how much you use of each shade will depend on your colour sequence.

Finished blanket size is approximately 67cm x 79cm for the baby blanket and 90 cm x 110 cm for the lap sized blanket (calculations to increase/decrease the blanket size are included)

The pattern uses treble crochet (UK) / double crochet (US), half treble crochet (UK) / half double crochet (US), cluster and extended / long treble (UK) / extended / long double crochet (US) stitches. There are detailed instructions on how to complete the cluster stitches and extended treble / extended double crochet stitches.

There are several clear photos to help explain the pattern included in the document.

Details of the shades I used for my version are included.

You will need a 4mm hook for the main part of the blanket. A smaller hook is used for the border. I used a 3.25mm but you may find a 3.5mm hook works just as well for you.

Tension:
Using a 4 mm hook, 4.5 repeats of the pattern and 14 rows = 10 cm / 4 inch square
Although not critical for the pattern, your tension may affect the appearance of the ‘pebbles’. It is advisable to do a small swatch before starting your blanket to practise the pattern and establish what hook size suits you best.
