When my beloved cat of 16 years passed away, I found myself casting on for a garter stitch shawl, using this soft yarn combo in pastel shades. I didn’t even quite realize I was knitting a rainbow until a few stripes in and then the whole thing came together, as if it was meant to be.

Wether your mind is sad, preoccupied or happy, we all enjoy a nice and easy garter stitch project and this one won’t disappoint!

The shawl was knit using two strands of yarn throughout. For this sample I used a mix of Holst Garn yarns and by holding the same grey alpaca throughout, it gives the stripes a very soft contrast. Of course, the shawl could also be knit holding only one strand of either Fingering or Sport weight yarn.

The triangular body of the shawl is knit first from the bottom up, in soothing garter stitch and the border is knit sideways (knitted-on border).

This is the ultimate relaxing project (especially if you forgo the border!) and the result will keep you cozy in every season!

19 sts and 36 rows = 10 cm / 4” in garter stitch with a 3.75 mm / US 5 needle (after blocking) (the gauge isn’t crucial but it could affect the size of your shawl)

Lorsque mon chat de 16 ans que j’aimais tant nous a quitté, je me suis plongée dans le tricot d’un châle au point mousse avec un mélange de laines toutes douces de couleurs pastels. Ce n’est qu’après avoir tricoté quelques rayures que j’ai réalisé que je tricotais un arc-en-ciel.

Que votre esprit soit triste, préoccupé ou joyeux, nous aimons tous/toutes un simple projet en point mousse et celui-ci ne vous décevra pas!

Ce châle est tricoté en tenant 2 fils ensemble. J’ai utilisé un mélange de fils Holst Garn. En tricotant le même alpaga gris avec tous les autres coloris, chaque rayure a un contraste doux. Bien sûr, le châle pourrait très bien être tricoté avec un seul fil Fingering ou Sport.

Le triangle central est tricoté en premier au point mousse, du bas vers le haut, et ensuite la bordure est tricotée sur les côtés.

Ce châle est très relaxant à tricoter (spécialement si vous décidez de ne pas tricoter la bordure !) et sera douillet peu importe la saison !
