Otti Kimono Cardigan
This cozy kimono-style cardigan features a striking hexagon tiled motif. The pattern is cleverly constructed much like a quilt, by arranging many striped diamond pieces at different angles to create a dynamic visual effect. The finished garment has a simple rectangular shape similar to a blanket, but split in the front to create an opening like a cardigan. The pattern consists of 16 diamond shaped pieces, and 8 smaller triangular pieces that are sewn together, and a knitted-on border with button closures on the front and sleeve openings.
This design honors textile artist Otti Berger (1898-1945), teacher at the Bauhaus School in Germany, inspiring early feminist voice in modernist design, and tragically, Holocaust victim.
45 1⁄2” wide and 58” long.
Falls 29” from shoulder to lower edging, and about 14-16” from shoulder down arms.
