THE INSPIRATION
The Ophelia Beanie is one of my favorite items to make. The gorgeous shell stitch works up quickly and easily, it’s a lot of fun to crochet, and the finished product is absolutely stunning! The bright, cheerful colors of this design play together beautifully and make me think of a rainbow piñata.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Worked flat and then seamed, this pattern includes detailed instructions and plenty of colorful pictures to help you along the way, so it is perfect for those who are new to crochet. You will just need to know how to work single and double crochet stitches. In addition, this design is extremely versatile! You can adjust the weight or colors of the yarn to create a hat that is perfect for you.
THE YARN
I used Lion Brand Landscapes when I initially created this design, but the solid colors that I used here have since been discontinued. Caron Simply Soft has a beautiful sheen to it that would make it a great substitute. If you want to stick with the single-ply aspect of the yarn, I would recommend Manos del Uruguay Maxima, available online from Stars Hollow Yarns - my local yarn shop.
