Need a quick and satisfying knit for that one beautiful fingering weight skein that has been languishing in your stash?
“On the Move” is the perfect accessory knit that will use that one skein and turn it into a gorgeous shawl to keep your shoulders warm and add some pizzazz to your outfit.
Knit from side to side, “On the Move” is worked at a gauge of 25 stitches and 26 rows per 4 inches and will use just about all of your 420 yards of fingering weight yarn.
The sample shawl shown was knit using Tanis Fiber Arts Blue Label fingering weight yarn.

There are many different ways leading to Rome, some of them are longer, some shorter, but all of them will eventually guide to the same goal. Knowing that everyone has different preferences and loves to pick the method that suits him best, this time, I have decided to offer two different versions of a pattern. They produce identical results - work from the one you like better. The regular version (file name ending in ..lLV.PDF) has the written part spelled out in detail, while in the short version (file name ending in ..lSV.PDF), different types of rows are defined at the beginning of the pattern, and then within the actual instructions, I refer just to their abbreviations, making it much easier to spot the stitch counts at a glance.

Materials:
* Tanis Fiber Arts Blue Label Fingering Weight (80% Merino, 20% Nylon) 100g/ 420 yards [384 meters]:
1 skein or approx. 420 yards [384 meters] of fingering weight yarn that knits up to gauge.

Please note that you will really need entire one skein (420 yards [384 meters]) of this yarn to make this shawl. I have used up almost the whole skein to make mine.

  • US 4 [3.5 mm] 24” (60 cm) circular needles
  • Tapestry needle
  • 2 stitch markers

One size fits all
Finished measurements: length (outer edge): 44.5” [111 cm]; depth (at the center): 15.25” [38 cm]

Gauge:
25 sts and 26 rows per 4” [10 cm] in stockinette stitch after blocking – save time by checking the gauge ♥
Gauge is not essential; however, different gauge may effect a different yardage requirement.
