Oliver
This shawl was inspired by Oliver the cat. He was loved by my daughter and sadly died while she was out of town. I used the two most prevalent colors of his fur and echoed them in my choice of fingering yarn. I accented with beads in his darkest color. (beads are optional, though they add drama to the design and instructions for easily hooking them onto the knitting are included).
The lace is deep, flowy, and luscious and includes a large, easy to read chart and also written directions for the chart. There are easy cables and a bit of texture to add to the mix. This is a beautiful, large shawl. It would be lovely in white or cream for the bride or in any other solid color. The edge has points pulled down during blocking in sets of three - resembling kitty toes. The top crescent shaping is striped, like the subtle stripes in Oliver’s luxurious fur.
You will need to know or learn how to k, p, c4f, c4b, s2kpo, k2tog, ssk, yo, and w&t. Directions are included for these techniques and stitches in the pattern.
You will use 2 skeins of Cascade Heritage sock yarn in a light gold color and 1 skein of the same yarn in cream. So around 1100 yards total if you are using just one color for the shawl.
Oliver was a sweet cat, always friendly, a bit chubby, with a big creamy color tummy. Very endearing. We miss the little guy.
If you’ve lost a pet and wish to memorialize him/her in knit, this will work well. Just pick the two most prevalent colors in the cherished pet and accent with the beads.
