This design works well with various yarn weights.

“Because the shawl is knitted from the top down, it can end after any repeat, and an option is given for adding picots to the scalloped edge. It can be made with laceweight to worsted-weight yarn (11+ wraps per inch). It is a great way to show off luxury fibers, but the pattern also would look wonderful in multicolored yarns or striped with odd balls of yarn.”

Two versions of this handspun shawl are shown:

• a lace Cashmere shawl, 368 yards, knit on size 4 US needles with a gauge of 27sts/29 rows per 4 in. in pattern, spun and knitted by Judith MacKenzie McCuin;
• a laceweight Suri Alpaca shawl, 600 yards, knit on size 4 US needles with a gauge of 18sts per 4 in. in stockinette stitch, spun and knitted by Kaye D. Collins.
