Old Shale is a traditional Shetland lace pattern that is very easy and intuitive to knit. It is often used in baby blankets and shawl borders. This version of the pattern adds a clean I-cord edge to the sides, knitted simultaneously, allowing you to hide any yarn ends or strands of carried yarn. Now you can use various yarns, striping them as you go, and not worry about lots of ends to weave-in at the end. Simply hide them inside the I-cord edges, and you are done! A sweet bonnet is a nice addition to the project, making this a perfect gift for a new baby.
