Shawl 4 in the Mythplaced series, based on the work of Herbert Niebling.
Odenwald is a semicircular shawl of lace and mesh, with lilies of twisted ribbing enclosed by a canopy of oak and beech leaves.
Odenwald or the Forest of Oden is where the Nibelungen saga is primarily set, and which seems fitting for a design drawn from Herbert Niebling’s work as Niebling stems from Nibel, meaning Mist, and his lace often had an ethereal, otherworldly quality.
-
Sizing: the pattern is one main size, though extra wedges can be added to make more than a half circle, and the edging can be repeated to soak up a little extra yardage.
-
Yarn: the design suits lace to sport weight yarn, of solid, gentle semi solid, or gradient colouring.
-
Yardage: this varied significantly between testers. Both tests in Yearning used 1 skein on 2-2.25mm needles. Tests on fingering weight yarn used ~ 1400m or more.
-
Pattern is charts only with written notes, though the early rows have been written out to get you underway.

The Mythplaced designs are decadent, escapist lace for challenging times. In such times, rest and self-care become doubly important, so a little dive into a distant world of really engaging lace can help provide some down time in amidst the madness.
