Octohats
If you like unconventional constructions, this is the hat pattern for you. It gives one simple method to get you started on the way to making any of the hats shown - and many more of your own design.
You can use any yarn and any needles to make a hat to fit you. It can be made without taking any measurements and without making a tension square. All you need is one simple calculation and even that is done for you with a table included in the pattern.
The pattern does not include precise instructions for most of the hats shown but it does tell you how to be adventurous.
To prove that you can use absolutely any yarn, the green hat is made from shredded Marks & Spencer carrier bags. It is about twenty years old, from before the time of biodegradable bags, and still survives.
As you might have guessed from the name, all the hats are based on an octagon. Heads aren’t round, hats aren’t round but hats made from octagons look just as round as any other.
This pattern has been around for a long time in various forms but this is the first time it has been published on Ravelry. If you have previously bought Let It Go To Your Head, or an Octohat laminated card, you have the basis of the pattern.
