October Opal
October in New Zealand is the middle of Spring…the perfect time for teaming pretty cropped cardigans with floaty dresses.
This cropped cardigan pattern has been designed for use with gradient-style or self striping dyed yarns.
The pattern has been sponsored by NZ hand dyer Let Them Knit
CONSTRUCTION
October Opal has you cast on at the neckline, and work flat forming a shallow garter neck line.
Before working the upper chest and sleeves, a slight puff is inserted to the sleeve area. The sleeves and upper chest are worked in one piece until you reach the required chest size, and from here the cropped puffed sleeves are cast off before moving to the eyelet lace body.
This pattern has been designed to showcase gradient style dyed yarns, with only 2 tails to sew in (the cast on edge and cast off edge)
SKILLS REQUIRED
- backwards loop cast on (under arms)
- long tail cast on (neckline) working
- basic lace working top down raglan
- construction working with 2 needles
- concurrently (octopus sleeves)
If you are not familiar with these techniques you may need to reference a knitting guide book, or view videos on the internet.
